Cerec – Ceramic Restorations

What is Cerec?

Cerec stands for ‘Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics’ and is a revolutionary system used to create dental restorations (crowns, veneers, bridges, inlays and onlays).

In the past to have a crown or other dental restoration made you would need to have multiple appointments with your dentist. The tooth would need to be prepared, then impressions would be taken and ‘temporaries made’. You would then need to return to see your dentist around 2 weeks later to have the final restoration fitted.

With Cerec this can all be done in a single visit without the need for impressions or temporary restorations.

How does Cerec work?

Launched in 1985 Cerec uses CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology to create bespoke ceramic tooth restorations. After preparing your tooth in the normal way, your dentist will use a special camera to scan your teeth to create a digital 3D model. This model is then used to design and fabricate a bespoke ceramic restoration for your tooth which can then be fitted on the same day.

Benefits of Cerec

One Visit : You no longer have to wait for 2 weeks between appointments and wearing temporaries and worrying that they will fall off. We all lead busy lives with work and family commitments to fit in, finding hours of time to have treatment is not always easy. With Cerec it’s completed from start to finish in a single visit and usually takes just a couple of hours.

One Injection : No-one enjoys having injections, because the treatment with Cerec can be completed in a single visit we only ever need to use 1 injection.

No Impressions : Although having impressions taken does not hurt, it can be an uncomfortable procedure. For some people this is not the most pleasant experience, especially if they suffer from a strong gag. With Cerec we use a digital scanning camera to create a digital 3D model of your teeth, meaning the end to taking impressions.

You are in control : Cosmetic Dentistry is ‘elective dentistry’ and there are many choices on offer. With Cerec, your dentist will create a 3D digital design of your new restoration so you can have much more control over the final shape, position and colour ensuring you get just what you want.

No Temporaries : Whilst we strive to create the most aesthetically precise and functional temporaries possible it is not an exact science and sometimes they fall off or break. With Cerec the need for temporaries is abolished as the permanent restoration is fabricated and fitted in just 1 visit.

How much does Cerec cost?

Using this state of the art technology a Cerec restoration usually costs the same as a conventional dental restoration or in some cases it may actually cost less. The cost of dental restorations vary hugely based on a number of factors, your dentist will provide a personalised quotation following assessment. As a guide our ceramic restorations start from £750.

Why choose the Cerec option?

With more than 30 years of clinical success Cerec is a tried and tested method of restoring teeth and not only does it save time and money, we think it offers a more pleasing way to receive dental restorations.
